Four fascinating living textures from nature’s most vibrant collection.

A real testament to how shooting textures truly opens your eyes to fascinating detail most people don’t see.

Spotted on an upturned rock in the park: A flock of wonderful red beetles, called firebugs (Thanks, Greg!), mating and sunbathing in the afternoon light against a classic stone texture. If you look closely, you’ll notice they have different color patterns and some don’t have wings — these are the nymphs, the firebugs’ offspring.
